Former Rivers governorship candidate, Hon. Warigbani Ezekiel Zebulun, has cautioned the President General of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), Bright Amaewhule, against inciting fresh political crises in the state.
Reacting to Amaewhule’s criticism of the massive airport reception accorded Governor Siminalayi Fubara on his return from suspension, Zebulun described the attack as reckless and self-serving.
“STOP THIS WAR DRUM. We will not fold our hands and watch you and your co-travellers destroy Rivers State the second time,” Zebulun declared in a strongly worded statement on Monday.
He accused Amaewhule of profiting from the six-month crisis that engulfed the state during Fubara’s suspension, alleging that the GDI leader was unsettled by the governor’s triumphant return and the restoration of peace.
“Governor Fubara is the governor for the masses, not the elites who arrogate power to themselves. Rivers people had every right to celebrate his return, especially after an unconstitutional suspension,” he said.
Zebulun further claimed that under the interim administration, Rivers State received over ₦450 billion from the federation account in addition to ₦270 billion left in the treasury by Fubara, yet no tangible projects were executed.
Calling for peace and unity, Zebulun urged Rivers people to rally around the governor to consolidate his developmental agenda. “Peace is priceless. Rivers people have chosen peace, and we will resist any attempt to drag the state back to the dark days of crisis,” he stressed.
