Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed deep regret over Nigeria’s performance at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), particularly their humiliating 4-0 loss to Sudan.

Although the Super Eagles B team bowed out of the tournament with a 2-0 victory against Congo in their final Group D match on Tuesday, the result was not enough to keep them in the competition. Nigeria finished third in the group after earlier defeats to Sudan and Senegal.

Goals from Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi secured the win over Congo, but the damage had already been done. Speaking after the match, Chelle admitted that the Sudan defeat remained his biggest disappointment of the campaign.

“Our deep regret stems from our heavy defeat to Sudan, but that’s football,” Chelle told CAF’s official website. “We will carefully analyze the Sudan match to make up for what happened in the future.”

Nigeria’s early exit from CHAN has once again raised questions about the team’s consistency on the continental stage.
