Emmanuel Bwacha, the All Progressive Congress’s candidate for governor in Taraba State, promised supporters on Monday that the party will win the state in 2023 despite the obstacles it faces there.
Bwacha stated during a news conference at his campaign office in Jalingo that any legal disputes over his selection as the party’s candidate for governor will soon be resolved.
The governorship candidate announced that he has appealed the Federal High Court’s decision to remove him as the Taraba APC candidate and order a new primary election within 14 days in response to the court’s recent judgement.
Abubakar Yusuf, the senator who represents Taraba Central in the National Assembly, filed the lawsuit in an effort to stop Bwacha from being the APC’s nominee for governor in the state.
In a separate case brought by another candidate for governor, David Sabo-Kente, the Federal High Court in Jalingo disqualified Bwacha as the party’s nominee for governor in the upcoming general election and mandated the holding of a new primary.
However, Bwacha asserted at a press conference in Jalingo that “the legal matter will soon come to a conclusion. I can tell you that we won’t lose. The people of Taraba want to build an APC government.
“We want to halt the trend of politicians coming from Abuja to run in elections just to return and hunt for jobs afterward. The Taraba people desire to support the center. I want to let you know that appeals have been filed in every case. I want to urge my fervent fans to not worry about the lower court’s ruling. We have challenged the rulings, and with God’s help, we won’t lose. Our party’s national secretariat has gotten involved in the matter, but the PDP’s operations at the state level have a negative impact on party events, particularly lawsuits.
The PDP in the state is afraid of the APC hurricane that is coming to take over and is doing everything to stop it, but it’s too late now because the people of Taraba have seen the light, he said. “The national chairman sat with the aggrieved members and my colleagues in the National Assembly too did the same thing,” he said.
Regarding the start of his campaign, Bwacha indicated he would wait until the legal proceedings were finished.
“We are unable to flag off at this time because it will appear that we are defying the court’s orders. When these cases are over, we will still uphold the rule of law because we respect it.
“However, we communicate with our fans, and they are informed of what is going on. We will prevail in the end, I want to reassure you, he continued.
