Teacher rescued after 56 days in captivity has claimed that kidnappers released him and other victims before security personnel later escorted them home in Oyo State.
Speaking to Nigeria Info FM, teacher Zacchaeus Olatunde said he and other captives remained blindfolded throughout their 56-day ordeal. As a result, they never knew where they were being held.
Furthermore, Olatunde said the abductors spoke Hausa, Nupe, English and Yoruba. He alleged they identified themselves as members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and insisted they were not Boko Haram.
He also said the victims feared they had been abandoned because no rescue came during their captivity. According to him, the kidnappers fed them twice daily with basic meals. However, they initially barred them from praying. Later, they allowed prayers but warned them not to mention the name of Jesus or pray aloud.
Olatunde said the group’s commander eventually announced their release and urged them to thank God. The victims then walked for about an hour before motorcycles transported them near a village, where security personnel met and escorted them home.
The Teacher rescued after 56 days in captivity was among staff and pupils abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Authorities have not publicly responded to his account of the release.
