Following the English club’s significant purchasing spree, Borussia Dortmund will face a revamped Chelsea in its Champions League round of 16 first leg on Wednesday. However, coach Edin Terzic stated on Tuesday that his team was prepared for any surprises.
In the January transfer window, Chelsea added more than six players, including Enzo Fernandez, who set a British record by being acquired for more than $130 million, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, David Fofana, and Mykhailo Mudryk, among others.
It spent more than $350 million in just January and added Joao Felix, a player for Portugal, on loan.
“Chelsea) is not easy to analyze,” Terzic said at a press conference. “We followed their games after the Champions League draw, but there was so much activity from them during the transfer window.
“They brought in new important players and sold crucial players. After that, we saw the official Champions League list, but then, for instance, Joao Felix was transferred,” Terzic continued.
“Therefore, you can’t predict how they’ll play. They used four defenders on the field, but they had also previously used three. We’ll be ready for anything.
All five of the German team’s league games have resulted in victories, including Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over Werder Bremen, giving them a flawless start to the year.
The Ruhr valley club has also placed a strong emphasis on its young players; this season, youngsters have scored 15 league goals, which is more than all other Bundesliga teams have combined.
However, the attacker Youssoufa Moukoko will be absent on Wednesday after suffering a six-week damage to his knee ligament on Saturday.
“We must defeat Chelsea at least once. Obviously, inducing euphoria with 80,000 people is simpler here. We will attempt to deliver, but we need two strong performances,” Terzic remarked.
We are aware of the caliber of the visitors, therefore it won’t be a simple assignment. We must put on an exceptional performance because this is a top club that received top reinforcements over the winter.
