The state of Zamfara has authorized the transformation of the state College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura, into a College of Agriculture and Technology, pending the completion of renovation plans.
Speaking before the House of Assembly standing committee on appropriations, State Commissioner for Agriculture Yau Haruna Gamji revealed this after defending the ministry’s 2024 fiscal year budget.
The information and public relations officer for the ministry, Bashir Abashiya, released a statement that included this information.
The statement said, “The Commissioner stated that the college’s upgrading was based on the goal of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the former Sardauna of Sokoto, who founded the institution to supply middle-class labor for agricultural extension services in the area.
“The Commissioner revealed that by enhancing infrastructure and developing staff capacity, the upgrading will also entitle the College to benefit from the Tetfund and other donors’ interventions.”
Ya u Haruna added that, in accordance with the National Board for Technical Education’s (NBTE) requirements, the State Government has authorized the re-accreditation of already-existing courses as well as the accreditation of technical disciplines the institution plans to introduce.
