Tunji Wusu –
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Edo State has praised President Bola Tinubu for his decision to stop fuel subsidies and allow the Naira to float.
The party said that the two economic policies were spot on and that they were the best course of action for the economy, which had become unsteady.
In an interview with journalists in Benin City, the party’s chairman for Edo State, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, also stated that these two economic initiatives will generate more than N2 trillion for the nation.
He did, however, issue a warning that the success of the economic measures would depend on the palliatives brought about by the reduction of subsidies.
Regarding the reason for his praise of the federal government’s rival APC-led administration, Aziegbemi said: “It’s the paradigm shift in policies that we are bringing on board in the PDP.
I work in economics. I will therefore be aware of sound economic policies when I observe them.
The PDP administration in Edo State, led by governor Godwin Obaseki, was praised by the party chairman for keeping its campaign pledges.
He cited a few of the administration’s initiatives that are focused on the needs of the populace, such as the reforms to education, health care, and the technology hub where young people are taught software engineering.
“We are going to have 15,000 trained software engineers in the next five years,” he asserted, “and they will create programs for companies like Google and others.”
