The Super Falcons have been given the challenge of winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals taking place in Australia and New Zealand by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Before the squad’s departure on Sunday for the event, which begins on July 20 and ends on August 20, she delivered the charge on Saturday in Abuja while hosting the team to supper.
Sen. Tinubu stated that Nigeria’s participation in the 9th FIFA Women’s World Cup must be for the honorable goal of bringing the coveted cup home. She was represented by Dr. Betta Edu, the APC National Women Leader.
She drummed up support for the Super Falcons, pointing out that the sport was a significant national unifier and advising the team to put in a lot of effort to live up to Nigerians’ high expectations.
“It’s critical that you maintain your dedication by working as a team; nobody should believe they are better players than the others.
“You can only achieve success when you play as a team. I’m hoping you’ll do better this time than you did last time.
“I have no doubt that 99.9% of Nigerians would watch you glued to their televisions. Make every effort to bring the cup home.
The first lady offered to personally welcome the team when they bring the trophy home while expressing her confidence in the team’s potential and pedigree to succeed at the World Cup.
Alhaji Ibrahim Gashua, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), earlier commended the Federal Government for helping the team.
“Football continues to be the biggest unifier in the globe; it has helped to maintain our national reputation while lowering criminal tendencies among young people.
“You will be responsible for the outing,” I want to nudge the coaches to be more devoted.
Mr. Philip Shuaibu, the deputy governor of Edo, prominent sports officials, and diplomats were among the dignitaries that attended the meal.
The Nigerian national women’s soccer team is one of just seven national teams that have participated in every competition since it began in 1991, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
