On Friday, June 16, Caroline Adepoju, the acting comptroller general of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), proclaimed a state of emergency in the nation due to worries over passports.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria, Adepoju remarked during the visit that it is vital to find a solution to the challenges Nigerians face in obtaining international passports.

She claims that the proclamation of a state of emergency on passport issues demonstrates NIS’s renewed commitment to finding solutions to the problems faced by Nigerians applying for passports.

It serves as a call to action for all parties involved, she added, to prioritize excellence, efficiency, and openness in service delivery.

Adepoju ordered all passport control officers, pertinent units, and staff, including those at missions abroad, to immediately remove any obstacles stopping Nigerians from obtaining passports.
