Dr. Kelechi Ohiri’s appointment to the position of Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has been accepted by the Nigerian Senate.
On Wednesday, in plenary, President Bola Tinubu’s appeal for Ohiri’s appointment was granted.

President Tinubu nominated Ohiri as one of the Chief Executive Officers of Agencies within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in October 2023.

The most recent position Dr. Kelechi Ohiri held was Managing Director for Strategy at the Geneva, Switzerland-based Global Alliance for Vaccines. After receiving his initial medical certification from the University of Lagos, he went on to get two master’s degrees in public health from Harvard University (USA) and public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

He gained a great deal of expertise working for the World Bank and McKinsey & Company, where he helped to influence changes to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
