In Niamey, Niger Republic, Nigeria won the Zone 3 of the 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship.
On Sunday night, Nigeria defeated Ghana 3:0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) to win the championship.
The ladies had earlier defeated Ghana, a local foe, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) in their opening game of the competition.
In their second game, they defeated the hosts Niger by a score of 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4) to extend their winning streak.
In their third match, the squad also dominated Benin Republic, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) to earn a rematch against Ghana in the championship.
Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the win in a post-game speech.
“We thank God because this is the first trophy that Nigeria has won at the youth level. I’m giddy with joy.
“The girls showed their worth and we qualified for the world championship in Thailand,” said the Ghanaians, who had come out in force.
Later today, the team is anticipated to arrive in Nigeria.
