The Delta State Police Command has threatened to detain, look into, and prosecute any individual who cannot explain their income source and has dubious sources of money.
Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the State Command Police, said this on Sunday via his X Twitter.
The police spokesperson stated that officers have the authority to detain those who cannot provide proof of their income and to prosecute them if proven guilty.
Edafe made fun of the belief held by certain Nigerians that it is improper to inquire about their “suspicious wealth.”
He mentioned that other cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, and online fraud have been handled by the force. According to Edafe, the police has instructed its agents to act honorably and refrain from using legitimate sources of money as a pretext to blackmail Nigerians.
People who believe it is improper to inquire about the suspicious wealth of those who are unable to prove they have any legitimate source of income are part of a very sad trend. There are reports of kidnappings, ritual killings, and even online fraud. We advise our men to act honorably and refrain from using it as a pretext for extortion.
“Anyone who is detained and unable to provide proof of their income, however, need to be thoroughly probed and brought before the authorities once the cockroach in his closet has been exposed. It’s the simple truth, like me or loathe me, Edafe remarked on the microblogging site.
