Any action, including a visa ban, to be enforced on any Nigerian who endangers the 2023 presidential elections by the United States of America is supported by the Nigerian government.
At a news conference in Abuja, the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, revealed the government’s position.
Let me answer to the many inquiries on the United States of America’s decision to impose a visa block on some Nigerians who are undermining democracy that we have received from the media, the minister said.
“Let me make it abundantly clear: whatever action is done against anyone who threatens to destabilize this democracy, which has been nourished by the blood of many of our patriots, is legitimate and justified. Governmentally speaking, we are
We are proud to say that no administration since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999 has demonstrated greater fidelity to the democratic process than ours, and no President since 1999 has been as unambiguous in word and deed as President Muhammadu Buhari regarding vacating office after the constitutionally required two terms.
“President Buhari has dispelled any lingering doubts about his steadfast commitment to hold genuine elections, give over power to a successor chosen by Nigerians, and then return to Daura after May 29, 2023. Last but not least, the Scorecard Series we’re creating here is yet another sign of our administration’s will to step down on May 29, 2023. Admin as we get ready to leave in May. Therefore, we are pleased that we have made it clear to our citizens and the rest of the world that we will be leaving office on May 29, 2023.
“Unlike the PDP, we have not been involved in any third-term dispute. In reality, we are developing the model for a seamless transfer of power that will serve as a guide for upcoming Administrations. Let those who threaten our democracy face consequences and bear their own burdens. Since our hands are clean, the government has no cause for concern.
