Three people were killed in a car accident along the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Expressway in Delta State’s Ubulu-Okiti sector.

The event, which occurred about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, injured 12 people.

The deadly collision involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number KSH 688 ZF and a vehicle with the registration number UWN 368 XT.

According to an eyewitness, two males and one female were killed in the crash, while seven males and five female victims survived with minor injuries.
“The accident occurred at about 7.am, both vehicles were traveling towards the same direction when they crashed.

Udeme Eshiet, Delta State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the accident, blamed the cause to driving all night and speeding.

“Both commercial cars were alleged to be coming from Agbor and travelling towards Asaba when the accident occurred,” he stated.

“My men out there stated 15 people, nine men and six women, were engaged in the collision.”

“FRSC personnel rescued the injured victims and transported them to the hospital at Issele-Uku, while the bodies of the deceased victims were taken to the morgue.”

According to Eshiet, the road had been cleared of impediments caused by the accident.

“He also highlighted that his government will cooperate with the police to carry out refresher courses, training, retraining, and other evaluation processes for police officers in all parts of policing tasks.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu likewise stressed the necessity to offer some equipment like body cams, non-lethal weapons, etc., to control excessive use of powers and improve excellent police-citizen interactions.

“As a result, the IGP charged all officers with instilling absolute respect for the rule of law and the fundamental rights of all persons, which is the crux and fulcrum of policing services, even as he urged members of the public to cooperate with police officers for seamless collaborative efforts to stamp out crime and criminality in Nigerian society.”
