Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement in the Northwest, Abdullahi Yakasai, has insisted that the president continues to enjoy strong political backing across Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, Yakasai dismissed claims that Tinubu had lost support in the North, describing the narrative as politically driven propaganda by opposition parties preparing for the next election cycle.

“For one to say that the political base and the support Mr. President has been having is no more there in the Northwest, I think these are just political negative statements,” he said.

Yakasai argued that President Tinubu’s policies and interventions should earn him continued support from the region.

“Honestly, what Mr. President has done, I think the northern part of this country should be happy,” he added.

Responding to concerns over worsening economic hardship and living conditions, Yakasai maintained that the Tinubu administration had introduced measures aimed at strengthening governance and development at the grassroots.

He also stressed that many issues affecting citizens’ welfare fall within the responsibilities of state and local governments, not the federal government alone.
