Former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), formally aligning with the ruling party after months of political speculation.

Mimiko announced his defection on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Ondo City, where he was received by the Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, alongside party leaders and supporters.

The former governor’s move marks a major political shift in Ondo State politics, given his long-standing influence in the state.

Mimiko remains the first governor in Ondo State’s history to serve two terms in office.

His defection follows the earlier movement of several of his loyalists into the APC in 2025 — a development widely interpreted as groundwork for his eventual return to the ruling party.

Political observers say the move could further strengthen the APC’s political structure in Ondo State ahead of future elections.
