President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms.
Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment on Friday via his verified X account.
“Breaking: President Bola Tinubu appoints Professor Attahiru Jega as Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms,” Onanuga posted.
Jega, who steered INEC from 2010 to 2015, steps into the role as part of Tinubu’s broader strategy to resolve Nigeria’s persistent farmers-herders conflict. In July 2024, Tinubu launched the Ministry of Livestock Development to tackle sector-specific issues and drive sustainable reforms.A
Acting on recommendations from the National Livestock Reforms Committee, the ministry aims to defuse decades of violent clashes between farmers and nomadic herders while fostering long-term agricultural stability.
