The government of Kano State has outlawed the use of tricycles on some of the state’s main city roadways by “Adaidaita Sahu,” as they are known locally.

Nabilusi Na’isa, the public relations representative for Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), announced the directive in a statement on Tuesday.

It is forbidden for Adaidaita Sahu drivers (tricycle operators) to go along Ahmadu Bello Way via Mundubawa Road to Gazawa and Tal’udu Road to Gwarzo, according to KAROTA.

According to the agency, the decision to issue the order followed the Kano state government’s provision of a substitute mode of transportation that will be used to transport passengers on the forbidden roadways.

KAROTA noted that in exchange of the tricycle prohibition, the government has offered 50 taxis and 100 ultra-modern buses.

It continued that after additional cutting-edge buses and taxis are provided to relieve traffic congestion in Kano city, the government will also declare when tricycle operators will stop using other significant highways in the state.

However, the prohibition on tricycle drivers will start on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.
