Troops rescue 360 civilians abducted by Boko Haram in Borno State

|By Adejumo Adekunle – Troops rescue 360 civilians abducted by Boko Haram in Borno State after a major military operation targeted terrorist hideouts in the Mandara Mountains.

The operation, carried out by Operation Hadin Kai troops alongside Special Operations Forces, freed mostly women and children who had been held captive since an attack on Ngoshe community in March.

According to security sources, Special Operations Forces first disrupted Boko Haram activities across several locations in Gwoza Local Government Area. As a result, fighters reportedly abandoned positions, allowing ground troops from the 26 Task Force Brigade to move in and secure the release of the victims.

However, the rescue mission ended in tragedy for two infants who died during the evacuation. Sources said the difficult terrain hampered efforts to move the rescued civilians to safety.

Following the operation, military medical personnel screened the victims and provided urgent treatment where necessary. Authorities later transferred those requiring additional care to the General Hospital in Gwoza.

Meanwhile, officials supplied food and water to the rescued civilians before relocating them to a secure facility. Authorities are now making arrangements to reunite them with their families.

Security officials described the mission as a significant success in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and free civilians from captivity in Nigeria’s North-East.

The latest development highlights continued military pressure on insurgent groups operating in Borno State. Furthermore, security forces say they remain committed to tracking down terrorists and rescuing those still being held.
