Victor Briggs and Abiye Membere, two former senior executives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), have each received a two-year prison sentence from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

On February 8, 2023, Justice Nnamdi Digmba sentenced them after finding them responsible for “unethically collecting car presents as public officials,” a crime that violates Section 98 of the Criminal Code Act.

The defendants were given a two-year prison term with the option of a N2 million fine, which must be paid right away to the federal government, by Justice Dimgba.

The EFCC brought charges against the prisoners for conspiring to get the NPDC to help Olajide Omokore, Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited, and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited hoist crude, as well as for accepting cars as presents from Omokore and his businesses.
