Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has hinted that two more governors are on the verge of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further strengthening the ruling party’s political grip ahead of 2027.
Ahmad, who served as Special Assistant on Digital Communications to former President Muhammadu Buhari, disclosed this on his X handle Tuesday night.
He revealed that the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, and another governor from the North West are preparing to dump their current parties and join the APC “in a matter of days.”
His post read: “In just a matter of days, the Governor of Taraba State and another Governor from the North West will officially join our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The latest development comes as the APC continues to attract key political figures across the country. By June 2025, at least two sitting governors—Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State—had already defected to the ruling party.
Speculations are also rife that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, may soon follow suit, fueling talk of a widening realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape.
