Two cousins, Damilola Famoriyo, 34, and Akinbayo Abiodun, 31, were detained by Ogun State Police Command officers for robbery and murder.
Amos Chuckwuka, a biker, was killed in eight actions by the accused before they were captured.
According to reports, the thieves took his tricycle before leaving his body near the Agoro riverbed in Ijebu-Ode.
This was revealed in a statement on Saturday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspects were detained on December 13, 2022, as a result of intelligence that police officers assigned to the Obalende divisional headquarters in Ijebu-Ode had received.
According to the PPRO, a trike rider’s body was later discovered and identified as such.
He stated, “Upon receiving the report, SP Murphy Salami of the DPO Obalende division took his investigators to the spot, where it was found that the deceased had been macheted to death before his tricycle had been removed.
“The DPO immediately delegated his top staff to begin a technical and forensic investigation of the occurrence in an effort to identify individuals responsible for the wicked deed.
“On February 9, 2023, one of the suspects, Damilola Famoriyo, who now resides in Awosan Fakale Ikorodu, Lagos, was detained with the deceased’s phone, and their efforts paid off.
“His arrest resulted in the capture of his accomplice, Akinbayo Emmanuel Abiodun of Road 1, Block A, Maya Ikorodu Lagos State, who is also his cousin.
“After being questioned, the two suspects admitted to committing the crime.
They admitted in their statements that they were a two-man gang that targeted motorcycles and tricycles for theft.
They further admitted that they always do their robberies in Ijebu-Ode and the surrounding area.
“According to them, on December 13, 2022, they agreed on a sum before luring the victim Amos Oyemechi Chuckwuka to transport their farm items from the Agoro area to the town.
“But, when he reached the Agoro/Ikangba Road, they stopped him and took his tricycle away.
“They macheted the dead to death and dragged his corpse to the riverbed where they discarded him since he tried to fight with them.
“They also told the police that their standby buyers were resident in Ikorodu in Lagos State and that they had stolen up to eight tricycles in the Ijebu-Ode area.”
The victim’s two phones and the cutlass the suspects allegedly used to kill the victim have been found, according to the police.
But, according to the PPRO, Frank Mba, Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the suspects be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a covert investigation.
