UEFA has confirmed the playoff seedings for the 2026 World Cup following the conclusion of the main qualifying series on Tuesday night, setting the stage for a fiercely contested final route to the global tournament.
Italy, Ukraine, Turkey and Denmark secured places in Pot 1, earning the advantage of hosting their one-legged semi-final matches. Pot 2 features Wales, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic, while Pot 3 includes Kosovo, the Republic of Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. Romania, Northern Ireland, Sweden and North Macedonia complete Pot 4.
Under the playoff format, higher-ranked teams will host the semi-finals, with fixtures arranged as follows:
-
Pot 1 vs Pot 4
-
Pot 2 vs Pot 3
Winners from each semi-final bracket will clash in a decisive final, with only one team from each path claiming a coveted ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The stakes remain high as Europe’s remaining contenders battle for the last qualification slots.
