Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has condemned the public and government silence over the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of reality TV star Phyna, who died after a tragic road accident in Auchi, Edo State.
Ruth, who was struck by a Dangote truck allegedly driven by an unlicensed driver, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after fighting for her life for 19 days in hospital.
In a video posted on Instagram, VDM criticised Nigerians, bloggers, and government agencies for ignoring Ruth’s plight while she was alive, only to amplify the tragedy after her death.
“She was alive for 19 days yet nobody spoke up. Now that she is gone, everybody wants to talk, post and trend the story. If we had raised the alarm earlier, maybe Dangote group would have been forced to act faster,” he said.
VDM accused the Dangote Group of negligence in employing unlicensed drivers and faulted government agencies for failing to enforce safety and accountability. He described the incident as another example of systemic failure where ordinary Nigerians are left vulnerable while powerful corporations escape scrutiny.
The activist urged Nigerians to hold both the government and influential companies to account, warning that silence in the face of injustice continues to cost innocent lives.
