The Benue State Police Command has disproved a viral video that claimed to show sacks of decaying naira notes found in a shop at the Police Barracks in Makurdi town’s Wadata neighborhood.

In the aforementioned video, some Wadata people can be seen removing bags of what appear to be decaying papers from a business while stating that the items are cash that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has uncovered.

However, the Command labeled the video as “misinformation” in a statement released in Makurdi by its public relations officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene.

However, it vowed to look into the situation carefully.

“On December 13, 2022, at or around noon, intelligence was received at A Police Division Makurdi that concealed Naira notes had been found at the Police Barracks Wadata,” the document said in part.

Police investigators who were dispatched to the area found trashed papers in a store not far from the Wadata Police Barracks in Makurdi.

“The shop’s owner, Mr. Isah Suleiman, was contacted for an interview and produced a waste management license that had been granted to him by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

“He also stated that CBN is typically the source of these waste papers, which are then turned into insect repellents. CBN has been contacted as part of the investigation for confirmation.
