According to Abubakar Malami, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, the administration of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari has so far recovered roughly $1 billion in stolen money from 2015 to 2022.
Following the Federal Executive Council meeting for the week on Wednesday, Malami informed the State House Correspondent of this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The recovered assets, according to the minister of justice, have been used in a number of economic sectors, including the fight against poverty.
“Our administration has recovered roughly $1 billion in misappropriated funds from various sources between 2015 and 2022.”
Malami also highlighted the government’s worry about instances of budget padding, which he called as alarming and promised to take all necessary steps to resolve.
