Babatunji Wusu –
The meeting between Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has been made public.
The leaders of the two groups convened on Monday at Force Headquarters in Abuja, as was previously reported.
It has subsequently come to light that IGP Egbetokun complimented the EFCC Chairman on his excellent work in combating financial and economic crimes as well as other acts of corruption since taking office during the meeting, emphasizing how effectively he is doing his job.
The head of police further disclosed that Olukoyede is highly trusted by President Bola Tinubu.
Egbetokun said, “I warmly welcome you and congratulate you on your appointment. You are doing well and Mr. President has a lot of confidence in you.”
The IGP vowed further assistance for the EFCC and expressed satisfaction with its efforts, calling it “a good child of the Police.”
The EFCC is our kid, and we are proud of that. We’ll be here for you always,” he declared.
Earlier in his speech, Olukoyede stated his satisfaction with the current coordination between the two Agencies and praised the Police for raising the EFCC from infancy.
“Given the specialized nature of our work, we are proud of the nurturing we received from the Police and we request more support, cooperation, and collaboration,” he stated.
He called the IGP’s attention to the necessity of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the EFCC and the Police in order to resolve operational overlap issues.
It is not necessary to waste time looking into cases that are identical. To appropriately handle such matters, we can draft an agreement,” he stated.
He urged improved understanding between the parties and pledged that the EFCC would keep using its connection to the Police to further its cooperation with them.
