The most prolific goal scorer at each FIFA World Cup receives the prized Golden Boot.
The prize was formally established for the 1982 World Cup, and up to the 2006 World Cup, it was known as the Golden Shoe.
A silver and bronze shoe, respectively, are awarded to the second- and third-place finishers.
Guillermo Stabile of Argentina became the first footballer to receive the trophy for eight goals in the tournament’s inaugural edition in 1930.
Just Fontaine of France holds the record for the most goals scored in a FIFA World Cup with 13 goals during the 1958 tournament in Sweden.
No player has ever won the Golden Boot more than once, although the Brazilians hold the record for the most victories with six.
The unusual trophy is made of a brass alloy that has had gold electroplated on it. It has a kilogram-ish weight.
