Babatunji wusu –
It has come to light why Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), was detained by Nigerian police force (NPF) agents.
Abure was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday in the capital city of Edo State, Benin City.
It was learned that the LP chairman was detained on suspicion of planning to commit a homicide and financial offenses, among other things.
The party’s previous youth leader, Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, wrote a petition to the police, which led to Abure’s detention, according to Arise News.
Abure was arrested the day before the Edo state primary poll for the party. Party authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
Remember that the beleaguered LP chairman was under fire after it was alleged that he had embezzled Party funds worth over N3 billion.
Oluchi Opara, the party’s suspended national treasurer, had accused Abure of embezzling N3.5 billion that was made from the sales of nomination forms and other activities leading up to the general election in 2023.
Abure refuted the accusation, claiming that the proceeds from the selling of nomination forms were about N1.5 billion.
