The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) chose his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, as its candidate for governor in the state in order to uphold the tradition of continuity.
He claimed that Gawuna had the qualifications to succeed him among the candidates vying for the top position in the state, even as he listed the traits they were looking for, including among others, loyalty, continuity in projects, experience, education, acceptability, and relationships.
In addition, Ganduje noted that no other political party in Kano can defeat the APC and its governorship candidate in the 2023 elections while speaking at a fund-raising dinner for the Kano APC candidate on Sunday night in Abuja.
Gawuna was chosen for the position, and Ganduje explained why: “Many candidates expressed interest in the position of governor in Kano state, but we needed to use dialogue and consultations. Many of them must be present. Some people wanted to win through negotiation, others received alternatives, and some people were pleaded with to resign, and the majority of them complied.
Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was a trusted commissioner of local government and a two-time chairman of the local government as well as the chairman of ALGON. I was also a commissioner of local government. Since continuity in projects, programs, construction, and articulation is crucial for governance, we used it as one of our guiding principles. After creating a strong foundation, continuity is necessary to create a lasting legacy.
“We have all of our development issues in writing, and without continuity, things will fall apart and you’ll discover that you’re not making much progress. We hold a view on the topic of continuity. I was able to recall my time as a deputy governor before rising to the position of governor under the Kwankwaso administration. Together with him, we planned every project he completed and carried them out.
Ganduje observed that by the time Kwankwaso left office, he already knew where to begin and did not need a prophet to reveal anything about the projects to him.
“I knew why the project was hidden, and I had no reason to give up on it,” he said. I had to finish the kilometer three flyover almost four years ago, spending more than N16 billion. We started it and completed about 20 to 30 percent of it.
“That is continuity’s power. I seem to recall that Kwankwaso began a hydroelectric project in the Chalawa Dam in 2014. He left it at around 30% on a project worth several billion naira. As a candidate for president at the time, Muhammadu Buhari laid the project’s foundation. The project is now finished, and on the 30th of this month, Muhammadu Buhari will commission it.
He started building it over ten years ago. The power of continuity is that, and there are numerous other things as well.
Therefore, Dr. Gawuna is fully aware of our projects and programs, and we think that the issue of continuity is what makes legacy so great. And continuity defines the family we are breeding. Insha Allah, we will continue to build upon it because we respect it.
“Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, we decided to make all necessary arrangements and consultations to ensure that Dr. Yusuf Gawuna emerges as the victor in the race for governor, and we think this is a tag team to beat.
. No other political party in Kano possesses the qualifications, and we are confident that, with Allah’s help, we will prevail.
“As you are aware, our event today is a fundraiser. Even though we are running a government, this kind of situation is allowed for by the electoral laws. Without a doubt, we need money for logistics in order to hold our elections in a setting that is very favorable, and the candidate has already been presented.
Continuity in governmental policies and programs, according to the deputy governor of Kano State and APC candidate for governor, is essential to getting good results.
Gawuna claimed that the knowledge he gained from his experience in public service would enable him to get started right away if elected governor of Kano state.
“My experience is important, and I’m ready to use everything I’ve learned to help our state.
He declared, “Our commitment is to ensure the continuation of good governance where everyone has an equal chance to succeed by fostering an environment where businesses will flourish in Kano.”
Additionally, the fundraising dinner was described as historic by Simon Lalong, the governor of Plateau State and chairman of the Northern Governors Forum.
He stated that it was now up to the Kano electorate to advance the state by supporting the Gawuna/Garo joint ticket.
He claimed that the sizeable turnout at the APC presidential rally held last week in Kano City demonstrated the party’s stronghold in Kano State.
“Gawuna will unquestionably elevate Kano to a new level. We’ll make sure Kano continues to be one of Nigeria’s best states. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, our presidential candidate, places a high value on both Kano and the residents of the state. The enormous crowd we witnessed there is unequivocal evidence that Kano is an APC state. It is obvious that Ganduje and Gawuna support the people, and that we also support them, he said.
Senator Barau Jibrin, who represents the Kano North senatorial district, said the dinner was in keeping with the custom in developed democracies around the globe where donors support candidates running for elective office.
Gawuna, he claimed, has an outstanding pedigree and is eminently qualified to lead the state given his previous roles as deputy governor of the state and chairman of the Nasarawa Local Council.
