Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has once again accused Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP’s national chairman, of stealing money obtained by the party from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for primaries in May of this year.
At the PDP campaign launch on Saturday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Wike urged Ayu to appear in court if he is innocent.
Wike and the PDP G-5 governors from Benue, Oyo, Abia, and Seyi Makinde were present at the ceremony. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was also there (Enugu).
Taofeek Arapaja, the deputy national chairman of the PDP for the South, and Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, were also there.
The governor remarked, “Let anyone who feels injured go to court and dispute me. Nobody will pay attention to a crooked man. You are corrupt, Ayu, and you cannot guide me in any campaign, I challenge you. Neither will Rivers State.
“Ayu is deceitful. People in Rivers are hurt. You are battling corruption, Ayu. How do you do that? I said that you stole N1 billion. I informed you that you took the proceeds from the primaries. You cannot attack Rivers State and get away with it, so sue me.
He said that while he supports the party, he also supports equity, justice, and fairness.
Wike urged Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential nominee, to launch a government of inclusion and unity at the party level.
The governor advised Atiku to correct the situation within the party by asking Ayu to step down so a southerner could replace him as the party’s national chairman if he believes in restructuring, devolution of powers, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of 17 northerners as heads of security chiefs.
In his remarks, Ortom argued that it was only fitting that in May 2023, a person from the south would succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
