The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing another internal crisis as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting following last weekend’s controversial National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Ibadan convention, which was largely seen as dominated by the Umar Damagun-led leadership of the party, resulted in the expulsion of key members of the Wike faction, including Wike himself, former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Ayo Fayose, Austin Nwachukwu, and several others. The expulsion was reportedly for alleged “anti-party activities.”

In a statement issued by Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Wike-backed faction, members of both the NEC and BoT were directed to attend the emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. Attendance is considered compulsory, as crucial matters affecting the party’s cohesion and future will be discussed.

The notice reads in part:
“The members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) are hereby invited to an emergency meeting of NEC & BoT scheduled as follows: Date: Tuesday, November 18, 2025; Venue: NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja; Time: BoT  11:00 a.m., NEC  2:00 p.m. Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”

The emergency meetings come amid growing dissent within the party, as several state chapters and stakeholders have publicly rejected the outcome of the Ibadan convention, claiming it was not inclusive and had sidelined significant blocs within the PDP. Observers say the move by the Wike faction could escalate the leadership crisis and further deepen divisions within the party.

The main PDP leadership, under acting National Chairman Umar Damagun, has maintained that the expulsions are valid and necessary to uphold party discipline.

As the Tuesday meetings approach, party members and supporters are closely watching whether the Wike faction will push for reconciliation, challenge the expulsions, or chart a more independent path in the party.
