The World Bank has approved a $300 million loan to support up to 7.4 million Nigerians living in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps and their host communities across Northern Nigeria.
The financing, approved on August 7, 2025, is targeted at strengthening resilience and expanding access to essential services for people displaced by conflict and insecurity, as well as the communities hosting them.
World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghis, said the initiative is designed to help the country tackle long-standing development challenges linked to protracted displacement.
“We are glad to support this initiative, which has tremendous potential to help Nigeria address development challenges associated with protracted displacement in a sustainable way,” Verghis said in a statement on Monday.
The Bank emphasised that the intervention is part of a broader strategy to deliver lasting solutions to displacement, reduce vulnerability, and improve living conditions in the affected areas.
