Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has directed that the Azare Mega Water Project in the state’s Hawul Local Government Area be completed.
The governor asked the state Ministry of Water Resources to ensure that the project was completed within two months.
Zulum issued the command while inspecting the progress of the current project at the Azare town site.
Tijjani Baba-Alkali, Commissioner of Water Resources, guaranteed the governor that the project will be completed on time.
The Azare Mega Water Project, which began four months ago, includes ten middle aquifer boreholes, each with a pumping capacity of nine to ten litres per second, according to Baba-Alkali.
According to him, the project will hold 560,000 litres of water, increasing its availability to the 20,000 residents of Azare and its surroundings.
“The 560,000 litres are made up of a surface tank with a capacity of 400,000 litres and an overhead tank with a capacity of 160,000 litres,” he explained.
The commissioner stated that the project comprised the reticulation of almost 3 kilometers of primary and secondary distribution networks, as well as arrays of water points.
He explained that six of the project’s ten boreholes had been completed, with four more to go.
The water project, according to Baba-Alkali, will be fueled by a combination of 24,000 watts of solar capacity and a 100 KVA generator set.
According to NAN, Zulum approved five additional boreholes with high-yielding capacity in other portions of Azare town that will not benefit from the Azare Mega Water Project at the completion of the evaluation.
