The 10 bodies that were discovered between Ibillo and Lampese along the Lagos-Abuja Highway in the Akoko-Edo Local Administration Area were subjected to an autopsy yesterday by the Edo State government.
The government is saddened by the occurrence, and Chris Nehikhare, commissioner for communication and orientation, told reporters in Benin City that citizens, especially vigilantes and hunters, and security authorities deserve praise for the discovery.
The unpleasant aspect of this, he continued, is what happened in Ibillo’s bush area, where our vigilante group, the hunters, and the police found 10 young men’s bodies, most likely aged 23 to 25. The young men were slaughtered with no distinguishing markings, making it impossible to identify them or even determine their tribes.
“The government of Edo State is deeply pained, especially when you consider the age range of these people. In order for us to determine the cause of death and for the police to conduct an investigation into who they are, how they got there, and what happened, the government has ordered that an autopsy be performed. There was no indication of trauma or anything else that could have indicated when or how these men were killed.
