Two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members have passed away, and the program mandated a second service year for three others after they reportedly skipped out on their obligations in Sokoto state.
This information was provided by Alhaji Usman Yakubu-Yaro, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, on Friday in Sokoto at the certificate presentation for 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps members.
According to Yakubu-Yaro, six other corps members had their terms of duty extended by various amounts of time for offenses such excessive absenteeism.
He said that truancy was strictly prohibited under the plan, and anyone found partaking in it would face suitable punishment.
He claims that 763 corps members finished their duty satisfactorily during the time period, and two of them were honored with the renowned Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar awards for their exceptional contributions to the growth of their host towns.
The coordinator commended the governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, for his affection and unwavering support of the program throughout the years, especially for his dedication to maintaining the payment of allowances to corps members.
Yakubu-Yaro added, “I also take this occasion to congratulate the Sultan of Sokoto for his unwavering support to the scheme, which has eloquently proven his passion for youngsters in general and NYSC in particular.
He asked organizations to keep assisting corps members with their business plans and ventures.
The coordinator advised the departing corps members to be good representatives of the program and to make the most of the entrepreneurship and skill development they had learned during their service year.
