Babatunji Wusu –
The African Union (AU) is discussing with President Bola Tinubu to determine the best course of action regarding the coup in Gabon, according to Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special assistant on media and publicity.
This comes after the announcement that military personnel in Gabon had overthrown President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family had ruled the nation for fifty years.
On August 26, 2023, the results of a contested election showed that he had won a third term.
In a press release on August 30, 2023, Ngalale stated that President Tinubu is working closely and keeping in touch with other Heads of State in the African Union in order to reach a comprehensive agreement on the next steps forward regarding how the power in Gabon will play out and how the continent will react to the contagious autocracy we have seen spread across our continent.
