Manchester United ended a difficult week with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday, increasing the pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

United travelled to their bitter rivals seeking a much-needed boost after managing only two wins in nine matches across all competitions this season.

The contest began with plenty of intensity, but clear scoring opportunities were limited. United goalkeeper Senne Lammens produced an important save in the 26th minute, clawing away a header from Nico Elvedi that was heading towards the top corner after bouncing off the turf.

Bryan Mbeumo, playing as United’s target man, missed a chance moments later when he headed wide from a fine cross by Youri Tielemans. He then sent a tame effort towards Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.

Mbeumo made amends in the 35th minute. Tielemans delivered another low cross from the right, allowing the forward to guide the ball into the bottom corner and give United the lead. It was his fourth Premier League goal of the season.

Leeds responded strongly after the break and equalised in the 51st minute. Following a corner, Tarik Muharemovic headed the ball towards Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who controlled it on his chest before stretching to finish.

Carrick introduced Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha as he searched for a winning goal, but neither side managed to find another breakthrough.

The result offered little relief for United, who remain 13th in the Premier League standings with just one win in their last seven games. Their struggles continue to raise questions about the team’s form under Carrick.

Leeds, meanwhile, sit seventh after securing a point against their long-standing rivals.
