The Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Rivers State has urged residents to assess political parties’ records and promises following the recent reconciliation between loyalists of the state governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alongside his political coalition.
In a statement titled “Political Reconciliation Must Not Distract Rivers People from the Need for Change,” the party said the development should not shift public attention from demands for accountable leadership and improved governance.
ADP Rivers State acknowledged that political reconciliation forms part of democracy. However, it urged residents to examine what the renewed political relationship means for the state’s future.
The party argued that the politicians involved had operated within the same political establishment for years. It said their reconciliation should not be mistaken for a new political direction.
According to the statement, Rivers State needs more than agreements between political interests. It needs a renewed commitment to the welfare and interests of its people.
The party called on residents to examine the records, policies and promises of all political parties before making decisions at the polls.
It also urged voters to demand accountable leadership, fresh ideas and a government that places public interests above political considerations.
ADP said its position was based on the need for a different political direction in Rivers State. It maintained that residents had a role in determining the state’s future through their electoral choices.
The statement concluded with a call for Rivers people to look beyond political alliances and assess the proposals and records of the parties seeking their support.
The statement was issued by the Action Democratic Party, Rivers State.
