Federal Government Has approved the concessioning of 6MW Ikere Gorge Dam In Iseyin, Oyo state.

The Premier News gathered that the 6mw Dam was part of the 5 Hydro Dams to improve electricity supply to Rural/Agrarian communities.

The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, said this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr Hakeem Bello, his Special Adviser on Communications.

Fashola said principal among the approvals, received from the Federal Executive Council meetings on memos presented by him, was that for Aso Villa to benefit from the Eligible Customer Policy.

The Ikere Gorge Dam is a major earth-fill dam in Iseyin local government area of Oyo State on the Ogun River. It has reservoir capacity is 690 million m3 and was initiated by the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo and started in 1983 by the administration of Shehu Shagari.

The dam was planned to generate 37.5 MW of electricity, to supply water to local communities and to Lagos and to irrigate 12,000 hectares of land but has been abandoned by subsequent military governments
