An Ethiopian Airline Boeing 777-300 Flight ET 901 carrying former President Olusegun Obasanjo aborted landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. It was learnt that the plane carrying 393 passengers from Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, the Airline hub, could not land on approach at the airport due to a weather condition. Sources said the five-hour flight from Addis Ababa was smooth until the pilot got to Lagos and could not land due to poor visibility. An official of the Ethiopian Airlines said it “a missed approach or air return, not over shooting of runway as being speculated. There was bad weather on landing due to heavy downpour but the pilot circled before landing.” Also on board were the Director of Ports Inspection, National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, Prof Samson Tunde Adebayo; the Director-General, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Ayoola Olukanni, among others. Obasanjo was in the Ethiopian capital to attend the Stakeholders Dialogue on Continental Trade and Strengthening Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement which ended on Tuesday. However, Obasanjo’s spokesperson, Kehinde Akinyemi, faulted the report that the former president escaped death, saying what happened was a normal aviation procedure.
