Unrestrained use of social media and other digital platforms, according to Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, presents significant worldwide difficulties.
At a session to welcome guests to the Global Media and Information Literacy Week happening in Abuja, the minister reaffirmed this position. 193 UNESCO member nations are participating both physically and digitally in the week-long event with the subject “Nurturing Trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative.”
Mr. Mohammed stated that it was crucial for everyone to have the skills necessary to critically assess and make use of the information at their disposal in order to handle the global crisis. The theme of the event was appropriate and current, according to the minister, who has often called for social media regulation, as the world and its leaders struggle to distinguish between what is genuine and what is false as a result of the use of media and information.
