Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said on Wednesday that he has yet to see the new naira notes.

Ortom, who made the remarks while hosting the governing council of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture Makurdi in his office, urged the apex bank to listen to Nigerians’ plea to extend the deadline.

The Central Bank of Nigeria insisted on Tuesday that there was no going back on the deadline.

Nonetheless, the National Assembly called for an extension until July on Tuesday.

Ortom explained that sticking to the Tuesday deadline will exacerbate the suffering of every Nigerian.

“The visible sign is that there are a lot of people, particularly in rural areas, to transfer the old notes,” he says. I have yet to see the new naira notes as governor.

“This is the reason I will join other Nigerians to look at this critically so that we don’t worsen the condition of our our people.

“To say that our people are suffering in Nigeria is an understatement. People are suffering in this country, and things are not going well. I’m requesting that the president look into it and extend the deadline.
