Tunji Wusu –
For the formerly in power All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, things are not looking good. It is apparent that the state APC is displaying an overdose of post-election stress since His Excellency, Dauda Lawal Dare, was sworn in as governor.
Dr. Bello Matawalle’s subpar performance, which hurt APC, was followed by the agony of defeat. There is hardly a day that goes by when the party doesn’t send a press release in which it spreads some senseless rumor about the new governor and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This allows one to draw the conclusion that APC is really completely deluded. Perhaps their actions stem from their realization and apparent disbelief that they no longer hold the reins of power and that a new Sheriff now oversees Zamfara State’s activities.
It would seem that the Zamfara APC is still only beginning to understand the full implications of their colossal defeat in the most recent elections. Although the party has been in denial ever since, the curtain has now come down, and they are now beginning to realize how horribly they failed the Zamfara people.
The party believes that organizing themselves into a nuisance brigade against the new Dare administration is the best way to conceal their skewed sense of failure. They are attempting to function as a cog in the system of the state’s continuing economic, social, and security emancipation.
We’re referring to Matawalle, who has publicly vowed to never leave the PDP, the organization that helped the Supreme Court appoint him governor. But he later dishonorably switched sides and joined the APC, thinking that as a group of ex-governors of the state, including Senators Mahmud Shinkafi, Abdulaziz Yari, and Ahmad Sani Yarima, it would shield him from the public’s judgment. Matawalle overlooked the fact that the same God who inexplicably and magically made him governor in 2019 can grant and revoke authority as desired.
Nothing can stop the incumbent from perhaps saving the state, which had suffered immensely from the mismanagement of the ex-governors, since it was God’s will that Dare’s time is now.
It is clear that Dare defeated all former governors of Zamfara State as well as Matawalle and the APC. They were humiliated and degraded after being soundly and comprehensively defeated in the elections by the same PDP that it had repeatedly rejected as lacking the resources to prevail.
The APC recently asserted in one of their odd press releases that the governor couldn’t have been worth the assets listed for Dare because the form he used to declare his assets is filled with fabrications.
redible wealth in order to plunder Zamfara State as thoroughly as the former governor Matawalle, whose whole income can be attributed to politics. No entry on Governor Dare’s asset disclosure form was ambiguous or impossible to verify, and as he had nothing to hide, he may have given his consent for it to be made public. APC can visit and check!
The APC may soon start skulking about the governor’s restroom to catch a smell of his business in order to use it to draft another of their tired news releases, given the way things are going. It’s quite embarrassing to watch how unemployed the APC in Zamfara has become in just two months, leaving them with no choice except to engage in unproductive babbling about problems that continue to reflect the failure of previous governor Matawalle.
It is a given that the opposition serves as a watchdog in a democracy, but it is important to ensure that this duty is carried out for the benefit of the populace as a whole rather than to further a campaign after elections. As a result, the importance of governance is reduced to a small-scale controversy that only concerns a politician’s ascent to office. To be fair to the APC in Zamfara, the Matawalle Supreme Court declaration does not count, therefore today is the first time they can be declared to be officially out of the Government House in Gusau. They might actually be rusty progressive opposition, so we should be forgiving of them.
They need to be reminded that elections have since been won and lost despite their rustiness. Despite all of his shortcomings, Matawalle fought and confronted the administration that the good and previously oppressed people of Zamfara State had rightfully elected.
In addition to the manufactured media campaign against the current administration, he proceeded to the tribunal to squander time and divert attention away from the new administration’s failure to fulfill its campaign promises to the Zamfara people. The APC and Matawalle must now retool and thoroughly lubricate its opposition apparatus in order to set it on the path of supporting the current administration and succeed where they failed.
Dare is prepared and committed to save Zamfara State from its current predicament from the start, especially in light of his official commitments and activities. Because to the previous administration’s lack of honesty, the state has fallen into ruin. Therefore, no amount of a smear effort will be able to stop Dare from rebooting and resetting the state to an admirable position.
Only those without experience will start panting at the takeoff location because the voyage is so long. The APC in Zamfara should take a cue from the opposition in the center, which has been quite mature in its criticism and/or adoration of the APC administration in Abuja.
Additionally, after failing the Zamfara people, Matawalle and his ineffective army ought to have at least displayed a modicum of decency and modesty by choosing to remain silent and observe how things are carried out.
Members of a government that was responsible for the kidnapping of more than 300 Jengebe schoolchildren as well as other security-related problems ought to have buried themselves in shame instead of resorting to needless verbosity to mask their problems. We won’t be duped once more; instead, we’ll support the current administration and their sincere efforts to make Zamfara State a better and more lovely place.Social commentator Abubakar posts from Gusau, Zamfara State.
