Babatunji wusu – Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has stated that the Nembe-Brass Road project was undertaken for economic reasons rather than political ones. The governor emphasized his desire to create access to the Atlantic Ocean in order to tap into the region’s natural resources. He made these remarks during a visit to the palace of King Ebitimi Banigo in Okpoama, Brass local government area. Diri highlighted his commitment to diversify the state’s economy and address poverty and under-development in the region. He assured the community that no projects would be abandoned, even if it meant borrowing money to complete them. Diri also called for a peaceful election process and assured that those who disrupt the peace would face consequences. He addressed community requests, including providing a vehicle for the local police division and looking into the establishment of a maritime academy and the Okpoama link road. The director-general of the Governor Diri Governorship Campaign Council and the chairman of the Okpoama council of chiefs expressed their support for the governor’s re-election, citing peace and progress under his administration.
