Pre Tinubu

Babatunji Wusu –

At least 14,000 Nigerians seeking asylum in Germany, according to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, face deportation due to a lack of identity documents.

According to Scholz, because the Nigerian government is reluctant to admit persons without the required identity documents, about 12,500 Nigerians are living in Germany under a condition of tolerance.

During a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the German Chancellor provided this explanation: “The current spike in Nigerians filing initial asylum claims in 2023 has sparked worries.”

“We are willing to work together to increase migration,” the statement continued, noting that Germany would be pleased to welcome back any Nigerian national who had behaved properly.

President Tinubu hinted at the possibility of working together to find a solution to the issue of the upcoming deportation in his response.
