Babatunji Wusu –
Following an incident in which the airline diverted its Lagos-Abuja flight to Asaba, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has decided to suspend all foreign lease aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines.
When the plane arrived at Asaba instead of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, passengers were understandably apprehensive.
As a result, reports claim that all wet lease aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines have been grounded.
Engr Benedict Adeyileka, a former Director General of the Agency, acknowledged the latest event in a statement released to the media on Monday.
He stated that the current NCAA Director General, Captain Musa Nuhu, has the authority to suspend United Airlines while an inquiry is conducted.
Adeyileka slammed United Airlines’ actions, calling them unprofessional and calling for a thorough inquiry.
“I just confirmed that their AOC sub-Part G is suspended.” This means that all of their foreign-registered aircraft are subject to subpart G.
“If you fly from Lagos to Abuja, the Captain is supposed to announce that the plane is landing in Asaba for whatever reason, but that was not the case.”
“The director of the NCAA has the power to suspend that operation pending the investigation on the matter,” he said.
