Babatunji Wusu –
A businessman named Nasiru Yunusa threatened to divorce his wife Aisha Hamisu unless she paid him N1 million in court at an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory.
In 2021, Yunusa and Hamisu were blessed with a 13-month-old daughter after being married in accordance with Islamic law.
Prior to this, Hamisu filed a request with the court to have her marriage to Yunusa dissolved due to her mistreatment and disrespect.
She stated that on April 19, 2022, Yunusa moved her possessions from his home to her father’s home.
On the other hand, Yunusa stated that although he wanted Hamisu to move back to his home, he would only give her a divorce if she agreed to pay him back.
“I am prepared to provide proof that I have spent no more than N1 million on a lawyer for ongoing court proceedings,” he declared.
The plaintiff retorted that she could not live with Yunusa and that she did not love him.
It is untrue that he spent N1 million on me because, following his disposal of my belongings at their doorstep, I have spent the last 2.5 years living with my parents.
“He did not pay a dime toward the hospital bill when I had our baby via a cesarean section at Kubwa General Hospital.
She declared, “I am prepared to return the N50,000 dowry to him alone.”
The case was postponed until January 8 in order to continue the hearing, as ordered by Judge Mohammed Wakili.
