Babatunji Wusu –

There were sixteen fatalities on Thursday as gunmen who were allegedly bandits broke into communities in Benue State’s Gwer East Local Government Area.

This development happened barely a day after opposing militia groups attacked the Gbagir settlement in the state’s Ukum LG, tragically taking at least 40 lives in the process.

The most recent attack, according to accounts, happened on Thursday when bandits went on a killing rampage through about eleven settlements, according to a source.

Sam Ode, the state’s deputy governor, and security leaders reportedly paid a site visit to conduct an on-the-spot evaluation, according to The Punch.

In response, Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue State Command Police, promised to furnish information regarding the occurrence following the return of Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina from the affected area.

As the nation’s insecurity continues to grow, the Senate decided on Wednesday to arrange a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly’s leadership.

This comes after Senator Emmanuel Udende made a motion of great urgency on the recent atrocities in which terrorists posing as herdsmen killed over fifty people in five different towns in Benue State.
