Babatunji Wusu –

On Thursday, the Supreme Court announced that it has reserved judgment on the Federal Government’s lawsuit against the 36 state Governors regarding the autonomy of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

The federal government is advocating for complete autonomy for these local governments.

However, the apex court revealed that the verdict would be delivered on a later date, which will be communicated to all relevant parties. Presiding over a seven-member panel, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba stated that the date for the judgment will be communicated to both parties and their legal representatives.

Justice Garba made this announcement following the adoption of final addresses and submissions by the lawyers representing the involved parties.

Further details will be provided later.
